(The opening starts with a school bus driving down a highway; onboard is Chuck E. and friends along with Charlie, Mrs. Miller, and the following kids: Sophie, Katie, Tiffany, William, Brandon, Jessica, Pia, Toby, Spencer, and David. All are voicing exciting comments before Mrs. Miller speaks up.)
- Mrs. Miller: Okay, kids! We're almost to the zoo, and I'm just giving a heads-up to make sure you're on your best behavior, okay?
- Kids: Yes, Mrs. Miller!
(Chuck E. notices the viewer.)
- Chuck E.: Hey there! Check it out! We're joining Charlie and his class for a field trip to the zoo!
- Charlie: Yeah, and we're gonna see lots of animals!
- Jasper: Like lions?

- Charlie: Wow, look at all those animals!
- Tiffany: Yeah! I see monkeys and elephants and giraffes and lions and bears...
- Jasper: The possibilities are endless!
- Mrs. Miller: Okay, kids. You're free to split up and explore. Just be sure to stick with Chuck E. and his friends so you don't get lost. If you need any help, just ask someone at one of the information booths and they'll help you. I'll meet you guys later for lunch. Have fun!
- Kids: Thanks, Mrs. Miller!
(Mrs. Miller leaves.)
- Chuck E.: Boy, I can't even decide where to go first! There's so many animals, I feel confused!
- Helen: I've got an idea! Why don't we all sing a song about the animals as we visit them?
- Pasqually: Yeah! Let's sing a silly animal song where they do all sorts of crazy things! Heeheeheeheehee!
- Chuck E.: Great idea, Helen! You can sing along, too! Come on!

- Spencer: That was a silly song, Chuck E.! A llama in pajamas...?!
- Katie: And baboons on balloons...?! Who knows what else?!!
- Munch: Hey, kids! Check out these big goat thingies over here!
(They all rush over to the exhibit where Munch is; he is looking at bighorn sheep headbutting each other.)
- Sophie: Whoa! Look at those goats! They have really big horns!
- Chuck E.: That's because they're called bighorns, Sophie. They have those really big horns on their heads to protect themselves from monsters.
- Jasper: Did you know those big horns are so heavy and hard they're almost impossible to break?
(Astounded comments from everyone.)
- Jasper: True story! And they're really tough!
- Brandon: And mighty, too!
- Munch: They're like the guardians of the zoo!
(All voice approving and humorous comments.)
- Jasper: Guardians of the zoo...!
(Music to "Wooly Bully" starts.)
- All: Matty told Hatty
- About a thing she saw
- Had two big horns

- "That’s the thing to do
- Get you someone really
- To pull the wool with you"
- Wooly Bully...!
- Munch and Pasqually: Wooly Bully
- All: Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

(Song comes to its end as they all laugh. Moments later, they pass through the penguin exhibit.)
- Helen: Aww, look at all those little penguins!
- Toby: I love the way they waddle with those little webbed feet.
- Jasper: Yeah! It's almost as if they're going, "Boom, boom!"
- All others: Boom, boom! (laugh)
(They exit; now they come to the elephant exhibit.)
- Pasqually: Hey, Chuck E.! Look at those elephants!
- Munch: Yeah! They have those long trunks and big tusks...
- Jessica: And watch how they stomp their big feet!
- Jasper: Just like the penguins! They're going, "Boom, boom!"
- All others: Boom, boom! (laugh)
- Chuck E.: Hey...I know a song all about going, "Boom, boom!" Would you guys like to sing it?
(They give approving comments.)
- Chuck E.: And you can sing along with us, too! Come on, let's all go "Boom, boom" together!
(Music to Boom, Boom, Ain't It Great to Be Crazy?" starts.)
- All: Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?

- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
- Giddy and foolish the whole day through,
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be... crazy?
- Helen: Way down South where bananas grow
- An ant stepped on an elephant's toe
- Chuck E.: The elephant cried with tears in his eyes
- Jasper: "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"
All: Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
- Giddy and foolish the whole day through,
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be... crazy?
Pasqually: Way up North where there's ice and snow
- There lived a penguin and his name was Joe
- Munch: He got so tired of black and white
- Chuck E.: He wore pink pants to the dance last night!
- All: Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy?
- Giddy and foolish the whole day through,
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be... crazy?
- Boom, boom, ain't it great to be... crazy?
(Song ends and they all laugh.)
- Jasper: Hey, Pasqually! Let's go look at the penguins some more. Munch, you and the kids stay with Chuck E. and Miss Helen and find something else that's fun.
- Chuck E.: Okay, Jasper, see you guys later!
- Kids: Bye!
(Jasper and Pasqually exit.)
- Helen: Chuck E., let's go see the monkeys next! They're this way!
- Chuck E.: Okay, we're coming!
(The kids voice excited chatter; they come to the monkey exhibit where several monkeys are monkeying around.)
- All: Wow!/Whoa!
- Chuck E.: Those monkeys sure are monkeying around, huh?
- Charlie: They sure are! Look! That orangutan is hanging from those bars!
- William: Those chimps are swinging from the trees!
- Spencer: And those baboons are dancing!
- Tiffany: And look at that mandrill! He's eating bananas!
- Pia: Monkeys love bananas!
- Helen: They sure do, Pia.
- Katie: Hey! Those five spider monkeys are jumping up and down on that box! It's almost as if they're jumping on a bed!
- Chuck E.: Hey, that reminds me of song about monkeys jumping on the bed.
- Sophie: Can we sing it?
(They all voice excited comments.)
- Munch: Go for it, Chuck E.!
- Chuck E.: Okay! Will you sing along, too, and do the actions with us? Here we go!
(Music to "Five Little Monkeys" starts.)
- All: Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
- One fell off and bumped his head
- Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said,
- Munch: "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
- All: Four little monkeys jumping on the bed,

(Song ends and they all laugh.)
- Helen: Monkeys jumping on the bed... hilarious!
(Suddenly, Jasper is heard screaming.)
- Jasper: CHUCK E.!!!!!!!
- Chuck E.: That sounds like Jasper! He could need our help! Come on!
(They all hurry to the sound of Jasper's voice, giving worrying comments. At a random exhibit, Jasper is freaking out while Pasqually tries to calm him down.)
- Jasper: CHUCK E.!!!!!!!
(Here they come, giving calls of "We're here!" and "Here we are!".)
- Chuck E.: We're here, Jasper. What's the matter?
- Jasper: THAT!
(Cuts to "that"; a ring-tailed lemur on a tree branch looking directly at Jasper.)
- All others: Huh?
- Munch: What do you mean by that? He doesn't look that bad.
- Jasper: Yeah, but he's staring at me...and it's freaking me out!
- Helen: Jasper, that creature you're seeing is a ring-tailed lemur. He's supposed to look at you like that.
- Chuck E.: Wow, those are some big eyes. (giggles)
- Jasper: Is he supposed to have big eyes like that?
- Helen: Yes! According to this description, a lemur's big eyes allow them to see very well in the dark. That way, they can hunt for prey and food much easier at night, because their big eyes help them see better than a normal human can.
- Tiffany: Well, the way the lemurs look at us is so cute! And the way the other animals look at us is even cuter!
(All voice agreeing comments; music to "Jeepers Creepers" starts.)
- Chuck E., Helen, and the kids: Jeepers, creepers
- Where'd you get those peepers?
- Jeepers, creepers
- Where'd you get those eyes?
- Jasper, Munch, Pasqually, and the kids: Gosh all, git up
- How'd they get so lit up?
- Gosh all, git up
- How'd they get that size?
- Jasper and Pasqually: Golly gee
- Kids: When you turn those heaters on
- Helen and Munch: Woe is me
- Chuck E. and the kids: Gotta put my cheaters on
- All: Jeepers, creepers
- Where'd you get those peepers?
- Oh, those weepers
- How they hypnotize
- Where'd you get those eyes?
- Pasqually: Wow! Those are the biggest eyes I have ever seen!
- Charlie: They're the only big eyes I've ever seen.
- Helen: Actually, there's some other animals that have big eyes, too. Like that koala.
- All others: Whoa!
- Jessica: And that bush baby!
- All others: Ooh!
- Spencer: What about that animal over there?
- Munch: Why, that's a loris. And his eyes are humongous!
- Chuck E.: My, loris, what really big eyes you have!
- Helen: And they're all the better to see us with!
(All laugh.)
- Jasper and Pasqually: Golly gee
- Kids: When you turn those heaters on
- Helen and Munch: Woe is me
- Chuck E. and the kids: Gotta put my cheaters on
- All: Jeepers, creepers
- Where'd you get those peepers?
- Oh, those weepers
- How they hypnotize
- Where'd you get those eyes?
- Jasper: Yeah, where'd you get 'em?
- All: Where'd you get those eyes?
(Song ends as they all laugh.)
- Mrs. Miller: Kids! Lunchtime!
(They all voice cheers of "Hooray! Lunch!" and somewhat as they rush over. Mrs. Miller is at a picnic area, they all join.)
- Chuck E.: Boy, all this safari fun is making me hungry, huh, guys?
- Munch: Me, especially.
- Mrs. Miller: Okay, everyone. Your lunches are all in this bin, and you may sit wherever you like.
(They all get their lunches and sit down to eat.)
- Chuck E.: I'm lovin' this ham sandwich. It's good.
- Charlie: I'm having a salad sandwich. It's even more good.
- Helen: I'm having a ham-and-salad sandwich! It's really good!
(Suddenly...)
- Munch: Uh-oh!
- All others: Huh?
- Munch: I forgot to bring my lunch! And I'm very hungry!
- All others: Oh!!!!
- Mrs. Miller: Don't worry, Munch. I've brought emergency lunches just in case. Here, take this one.
- Munch: Thank you, Mrs. Miller!
- Chuck E.: What did you get, Munch? A ham sandwich? A salad sandwich? Or a ham-and-salad sandwich?
- Munch: All three kinds!
(They all laugh.)
- Jasper: Hey, guys! Speaking of those sandwiches, I've heard some animals eat meat and some eat plants, and some eat plants and meat!
- Mrs. Miller: That's right, Jasper. Every animal has different eating habits, some eat plants, some eat meat, and some eat both. We just need to figure out who eats what!
(Music to "Plants or Meat" starts.)
- All: Plants or meat? Plants or meat?
- What do they eat? What do they eat?
- Our animal friends, they eat lots of food
- But what's on their diet, what do they include
- So let's all share this info with you
- Should they have plants or meat?
- Mrs. Miller: Big cats eat their meat
- They're called carnivores, so to speak
- They're hunting down their prey
- Eat their meat with no delay
- Helen: Hyenas eat their meat as well
- Seals can eat their fish, so swell
- Chuck E.: So do weasels, coyotes, too
- Ocelots, wolves, and even raccoons
- All: Plants or meat? Plants or meat?
- What do they eat? What do they eat?
- Our animal friends, they eat lots of food
- But what's on their diet, what do they include
- So let's all share this info with you
- Should they have plants or meat?
- Jasper: Giraffes, they eat the plants and trees
- Also the grass, and so they please
- They're known by us as herbivores
- That's the plant-eater, want some more?
- Munch: Pandas, camels, a donkey, a horse
- Koalas, okapi, and llamas, of course
- Pasqually: Zebras, rhinos, and kangaroos
- Can I share some of these leaves with you? (giggles)
- All: Plants or meat? Plants or meat?
- What do they eat? What do they eat?
- Our animal friends, they eat lots of food
- But what's on their diet, what do they include
- So let's all share this info with you
- Should they have plants or meat?
- Charlie: An omnivore is what we call
- The double-duty, so we recall
- They stick to both the meat and plants
- Just like us, let's do a dance!
- All: Dogs and pigs and pandas, ooh!
- And humans can be omnivores, too
- Now we know just what they eat
- Let's all have our plants and meat!
- All: Plants or meat? Plants or meat?
- What do they eat? What do they eat?
- Our animal friends, they eat lots of food
- Now we know their diets, and what they include
- It was fun to share this info with you
- Should they have plants or meat?
(Song ends and they cheer. Changes to the kids looking at hippos with Pasqually and Jasper.)
- Charlie: Man, those hippos can really swim, huh?
- Pasqually: Sure do! I've got a joke! What do you get when you cross a hippo with a dog?
- Pia: I don't know.
- Pasqually: A hippo-paw-tamus!
(They all laugh.)
- Chuck E.: Kids! Pasqually! Come look at the lions with us!
(They all voice cries of "Lions?!" and rush over to the lion exhibit.)
- Pia: Wow! Look at them! They're like humongous cats!
- Toby: I like the hair that goes around their head.
- Chuck E.: That's called a mane, Toby. I like them, too.
- Spencer: Aww, I love all those little baby lions!
- Helen: Baby lions are called cubs, Spencer. Soon they'll grow up to be as big as their parents.
- Munch: Matter of fact, a family of lions is called a pride. Did you know they can have as many as six babies at once?
- Kids: Wow!
- Munch: For real!
- Charlie: Hey! That lion over there is asleep! Should we wake him up?
- Jasper: Oh, no, Charlie! We don't want him goin' all angry all of a sudden!
- Katie: Then why should we let him sleep?
- Helen: Well, Katie, lions can sleep for up to twenty hours a day. They do most of the hunting by nightfall when their prey is unaware.
- Pasqually: That way, it gives them enough energy to sneak up and make their mark! (giggles) Get it?
(Music to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" starts.)
- Chuck E.: Weeheeheehee, dee heeheeheehee, dee weeoh aweem away
- Weeheeheehee, dee heeheeheehee, dee weeoh aweem away

- Near the village, the quiet village
- The lion sleeps tonight

- Charlie: Thank you! Now I can have a sleeping lion with me at bedtime every night!
(They all laugh.)
- Helen: Hush, my darling, don't fear, my darling
- The lion sleeps tonight
- Hush, my darling, don't fear, my darling
- The lion sleeps tonight
- Jasper and Helen: Ho, ho!
- Chuck E.: Whoa, whoa, whoa; whoa, whoa, whoa; whoa, whoa, aweem away
- All others: (A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh)

(He places a bracelet on her wrist; it has bird charms on it.)
- Helen: (gasps) A bird bracelet! It's beautiful! Thank you, Charlie! And thank you, Chuck E.! (hugs him)
- Chuck E.: Whoa! (giggles) You're welcome, Helen!
- Brandon: Hey, Chuck E.! Those robins can really sing!

- Pasqually: Was there any place we haven't seen yet?
- Munch: Hey, what about the reptile house? I like those kinds of animals!
(All voice approving comments.)
- Chuck E.: Good idea, Munch! Let's go there!
(They continue on until they enter the reptile house. They all voice surprised comments.)
- Charlie: I wonder why they're called reptiles.
- Chuck E.: Well, Charlie, reptiles are animals that have scales and webbed feet and can lay eggs. They're mostly land and sea creatures. Like that gecko over there.
(They go to check it out and voice astounded comments. They pass other reptile exhibits.)
- Jasper: And there's a lizard, and a turtle, and a snake... ooh! And there's a chameleon!
- William: Where? I don't see one.
- Jasper: Right there, on the tree branch!
(A "lump" on the branch moves; the chameleon is revealed.)
All others: Ooooooooh...!
- Helen: No wonder I didn't see him!
- Munch: That's because chameleons can change their colors to blend in with their surroundings, so they can't be eaten.
- Toby: Hey, look over there!
(In the middle of the room is a tank full of crocodiles.)
- All: CROCODILES!!!
- Jasper: They're reptiles, too?!
- Pasqually: They sure are! I mean, look at their scaly skin and their mighty jaws and their really pointy teeth!
- Jasper: I don't want him to eat me!
- Chuck E.: Don't worry, Pasqually, he won't hurt you. By the way, did you know that crocodiles are in fact, the oldest living reptile on the whole planet?
- Helen: Yeah! And their bites are the strongest of all, but they never use their teeth to chew.
- Pasqually: And they're related to dinosaurs!
- Charlie: You mean that we have dinosaurs in the reptile house!!??
- Pasqually: Indeed, Charlie! And they're really tough!
- Chuck E.: That must explain why they resemble T-rexes!
- All others: Yeah!
(Music to "Crocodile Rock" starts.)
- Chuck E.: I remember when rock was young
- Me and Susie had so much fun
- Holding hands and skimming stones
- Had an old gold Chevy, and a place of my own
- But the biggest kick I ever got
- Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
- While the other kids were rocking 'round the clock
- We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock, well
- All: Crocodile rocking is something shocking
- When your feet just can't keep still
- I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
- Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights
- When Suzie wore her dresses right
- And the Crocodile rocking was out of sight
- Laa, la-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- Chuck E.: But the years went by and the rock just died
- Suzie went and left me for some foreign guy
- Long nights crying by the record machine
- Dreaming of my Chevy and old blue jeans
- But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
- Burning up to the Crocodile Rock
- Learning fast as the weeks went past
- We really thought the Crocodile Rock would last, well
- All: Crocodile rocking is something shocking
- When your feet just can't keep still
- I never knew me a better time and I guess, I never will
- Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights
- When Suzie wore her dresses right
- Crocodile rocking was out of sight
- Laa, la-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- Chuck E. and Jasper: I remember when rock was young
- Me and Suzie had so much fun
- Holding hands and skimming stones
- Had an old gold Chevy, and place of my own
- But the biggest kick I ever got
- Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
- While the other kids were rocking 'round the clock
- We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock, well
- All: Crocodile rocking is something shocking
- When your feet just can't keep still
- I never knew me a better time and I guess, I never will
- Oh, lawdy mama those Friday nights
- When Suzie wore her dresses right
- Crocodile rocking was out of sight
- Laa, la-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- Laa, la-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
- La-la-la-la-laa
(Song ends as they leave the reptile house. Back at the zoo...)
- Charlie: Man, Chuck E., this has been such a great field trip. Thank you for coming with us.
- Chuck E.: Aw, you're welcome, Charlie. To be honest, other than my place, the zoo is an amazing spot to hang out.
- Jasper: Yeah! All these wild animals take the cake!
- Pasqually: The birds, the reptiles, the preys, the predators...
- Munch: All of them, mostly.
- Helen: But not as mostly fun as getting to see them!
- David: I would say you guys are the master of animals!
- Chuck E.: Indeed, we sure are! (giggles)
(Everyone else giggles as well; music to "Joy to the World" starts.)
- Chuck E.: Jeremiah was a bullfrog
- Was a good friend of mine
- I never understood a single word he said
- But I helped him to have a good time
- And he always had a mighty fun time
- Singin'
- Chuck E. and the kids: Joy to the world
- Chuck E.: All the boys and girls now
- Chuck E. and the kids: Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Jasper: And if I were the king of the world
- Tell you what I'd do
- I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the war
- Make sweet love to you
- Sing it now!
- All: Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Chuck E. and the kids: Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- All: Joy to you and me
- Mrs. Miller: Alright, come on, everyone! It's time for us to go!
(They all groan.)
- Munch: Already?!
- Charlie: Sorry, Munch, that's what it's like. It's time for us to head home, now.
- Pia: Besides, it's getting late.
- Chuck E.: Pia's right. Come on, kids, let's have one last dance with the animals as we go. Come on!
(They cheer and make their way back the way they came.)
- Chuck E.: You know I love the ladies
- Love to have my fun
- I'm a high life flyer and a rainbow rider
- A straight shootin' son-of-a-gun
- Helen: All, right!
- Chuck E. and the kids: I said a straight shootin' son-of-a-gun
- Chuck E.: Everybody, now!
- All: Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Chuck E.: Come on, kids!
- All: Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the world
- Joy to you and me
- Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Jasper: AW, YEAAAAAH!
- All: Joy to the world
- Joy to you and me
- Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
(They reach the exit.)
- Mrs. Miller: Did you have a good time?
- Charlie: We had a great time!
- Jasper: Matter of fact, we had a wild time!
- Munch: We saw so many animals today!
- Helen: I loved singing with the birds the most!
- Pasqually: We really enjoyed ourselves!
- Mrs. Miller: Well then, I guess we have to come back again on our next field trip!
- All others: YEAH!
- Chuck E.: Goodbye, animals! Goodbye, sleeping lion!
- Helen: Bye, birds! Bye, bighorns!
- Jasper: Bye, big-eyed lemur!
- Pasqually: Bye, crocodiles! Bye, elephants and penguins!
- Munch: Bye, plant and meat eaters!
- Kids: Goodbye, zoo!
- Chuck E.: And goodbye to you, too! Thank you for coming to the zoo with us! It was fun!
- All others: YEAH!
- All: Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Chuck E.: One more time, everyone!
- All: Joy to the world
- All the boys and girls
- Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and me
- Chuck E.: We'll see you next time, everyone! Goodbye!
- All: Bye!/Goodbye!
(They all leave the zoo.)
- All: Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
- Joy to you and... me
(Song ends as we pan up to the rooftop; a bird nearby winks at the camera, ending the show.)
(End credits.)
