(The opening starts with the exterior of Chuck E.'s house before cutting to Chuck E. inside holding a bone.)
- Chuck E.: Come here, Pepperoni. Here, boy. Come to the bone. Come here. That's it. Come here.
(Chuck E.'s dog Pepperoni comes running up to the bone and grabs it out of his owner's hand.)
- Chuck E.: Good boy! That's a good Pepperoni, aren't you? Yes you are!
(He kneels down and pets his dog happily while saying this and giggles; he notices the viewer.)
- Chuck E.: Oh, hello there! I'm Chuck E., and this my puppy! His name is Pepperoni, and he's my pet! Come here, Pepperoni, come to Chuck E.! Come here!
(Pepperoni jumps into Chuck E.'s arms; he giggles.)
- Chuck E.: He's so cute! Look at him! He's got little black eyes, and long floppy ears, and a big waggly tail... and he's red all over! That's why I named him Pepperoni. Who's a good dog? You are, Pepperoni! You are!
(Pepperoni licks his cheek, and he giggles.)
- Chuck E.: Pepperoni has been my pet ever since I adopted him at the pet store. I remember the day I first got him. It was a bright and sunny day...
(Flashes back to the day Chuck E. got Pepperoni; shows him walking down a busy sidewalk.)
- Chuck E.: (voiceover) I was walking, minding my own business, when I happened to pass the pet store and saw him on display in the window.
(Chuck E. looks in the pet store window and sees Pepperoni on display. He sees him and barks excitedly.)
- Chuck E.: (voiceover) It was that moment I had to adopt him and have a pet of my own! I just needed to know how much he was.
(Music to "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?" starts.)
- Chuck E.: How much is that doggie in the window?
- The one with the waggly tail
- How much is that doggie in the window?
- I do hope that doggie's for sale
- I don't want a rabbit or a kitten
- I don't want a parrot that talks
- I don't want a bowl of little fishes
- (Spoken:) I can't take a fish for a walk! (Giggles)
(Some children come and join him.)
- Chuck E. and the kids: How much is that doggie in the window?
- The one with the waggly tail
- How much is that doggie in the window?
- I do hope that doggie's for sale
(They enter the pet store.)
- Chuck E.: I've saved up all of my pocket money
- I want to give him a good home
- I'll wash, feed, walk, give him all that he needs
- Can't wait to feed him a big bone
- Chuck E. and the kids: How much is that doggie in the window?
- The one with the waggly tail
- How much is that doggie in the window?
- I do hope that doggie's for sale
(He goes over to the adoption counter.)
- Chuck E.: Hey, Fran. I'd like to adopt the red dog on display in the window.
- Fran: Oh, he's so cute! He costs $10.
- Chuck E.: Hmm...
(He takes out his money bag and counts his saved pocket money.)
- Chuck E.: I have $25 from my tip at my last gig, and the dog costs $10. (Pauses) I have enough! Here you go!
(He hands Fran the money.)
- Fran: Great! Now all you have to do is fill out the paperwork, and I'll get him all ready to go.
(Fran leaves; Chuck E. starts signing the papers.)
- Chuck E.: Oh, I can't believe I'm gonna get him
- Soon I'll have a pet of my own
- Oh, he'll be my very special fella
- And with him, I won't be alone
- Chuck E. and the kids: How much is that doggie in the window?
- The one with the waggly tail
- How much is that doggie in the window?
- I do hope that doggie's for sale
(He finishes the paperwork; Fran returns with Pepperoni.)
- Chuck E.: There, done.
- Fran: Great! There's still one thing left to do. Sign your name on this adoption certificate and give the name of your new pet.
(Chuck E. signs his name and writes down his new pet's name.)
- Chuck E.: I'm naming him...Pepperoni! Because he reminds me of that topping on a pizza. (Giggles)
(He finishes writing; Fran stamps the certificate.)
- Fran: He's all yours!
- Chuck E.: Pepperoni!
(He holds his new pet in his arms; the children and everyone in the store cheer.)
- Chuck E.: Now I've got a very special fella
- Now I have a pet of my own
- Oh, we're gonna be best friends forever
- 'Cause with him, I won't be alone
- Chuck E. and the kids: How much is that doggie in the window?
- The one with the waggly tail
- How much is that doggie in the window?
- I do hope that doggie's for sale
(Song ends; Chuck E. snuggles Pepperoni close.)
- Chuck E.: I love you, Pepperoni. (Pepperoni licks his cheek.) Whoa! Guess you love me, too! (giggles)
(He continues snuggling his new pet happily. Flashback ends and changes to the sidewalk outside Chuck E.'s house. Pepperoni comes in walking; pulls back to show him on a leash that Chuck E. is holding; he is taking him for a walk.)
- Chuck E.: Whoa! Slow down, Pepperoni! (giggles) Pepperoni sure is fast!
- Charlie: Chuck E., Chuck E.!!
- Chuck E.: Whoa!!!
(He stops Pepperoni just in time before they run into Charlie right ahead of them.)
- Chuck E.: Oh! Hey, Charlie! I didn't see you there.
- Charlie: No problem. How are you, Pepperoni?
(He pets Pepperoni; he whimpers excitedly.)
- Chuck E.: He says he's fine. What are you doing here, anyway?
- Charlie: Chuck E., my parents said I've been doing so good in school, that they're letting me adopt my own pet!
- Chuck E.: Wow! That's amazing! I'm so proud of you, Charlie!
- Charlie: Thanks! The only problem is, I can't decide what pet I wanna get. There's just so many of 'em!
- Chuck E.: Hmm... Pepperoni is my pet. So maybe we should think of a pet that's perfect just for you. So what pets do you like?
- Charlie: Well, I like dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, fish... Oh, there's so many, I can't pick my favorite one!
- Chuck E.: Can't pick, huh? Well, now that's a problem we need to solve!
(Music to "So Many Pets" starts.)
- Chuck E.: There's just a lot of animals that wanna be your pet
- But you simply can't decide which one will be the best one yet
- We have got to solve this problem, and I know that you can bet
- You'll have a pet of your own
- Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- There's just so many pets
(Here come Chuck E.'s friends down the sidewalk.)
- Jasper: Hey, Chuck E.! Hey, Charlie!
(All exchange hellos as they meet up.)
- Munch: So what's goin' on?
- Chuck E.: Charlie is gonna adopt a pet today, but he can't decide which one.
- Charlie: Yeah. The options are hard to choose from.
- Pasqually: Well, don't worry, Charlie! We're all friends of Chuck E., and we'll help you!
- Helen: Yeah! You can always count on your friends to solve your troubles!
- Charlie: That's true!
- Munch: Whenever there's a problem, we'll be here to save the day
- Jasper: We can help you get the pet you want, we'll go without delay
- Helen: And we're sure that you will make your choice, and this is what we say
- Chuck E.: We'll help you get your pet
- All: Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- Hey-oh, there's a lot of pets to have
- There's just so many pets
(Song ends; Pepperoni barks.)
- Chuck E.: Okay, Charlie, let's get down to business here. The best way to find the perfect pet is to visit some of your other friends who also have pets.
- Munch: That way, getting a look at the other pets would give you an idea on your pet.
- Charlie: Great idea, guys! And speaking of friends, here comes Abby! She has a pet, too!
(Up the sidewalk, Abby is walking her pet dog.)
- Jasper: Hey, she has a pet dog!
- Chuck E.: Just like my dog, Pepperoni! Let's go talk to her!
(They rush up to Abby.)
- Chuck E.: Hi, Abby!
- Charlie: Hey, Abby!
- Abby: Hey, Charlie. Hi, Chuck E. and friends! What are you up to?
- Chuck E.: We're trying to help Charlie decide on what to get for a pet. I see you have a pet, too!
- Abby: I sure do! This is my dog, Bingo. I'm taking him for a walk around town.
- Helen: Wow, Abby! Dogs sure are cool!
- Jasper: Yeah! They're so much fun!
- Abby: That's true, Jasper. I also taught Bingo some tricks. Watch! Bingo, sit.
(Bingo sits.)
- Abby: Bingo, shake.
(Bingo sticks out a paw to shake Abby's hand.)
- Abby: Bingo, roll over.
(Bingo does a body roll; all the others are impressed and applaud and voice nice comments.)
- Munch: Now that's what I call man's best friend!
- Abby: Thanks, Munch! And Bingo loves it when I sing to him. Matter of fact, I think he wants to hear a song right now!
- Chuck E.: We know a song about a dog named Bingo! Come on! Let's all sing it together!
(They all voice excited comments; music to "Bingo" starts.)
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: B-I-N-G-O
- B-I-N-G-O
- B-I-N-G-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: (clap)-I-N-G-O
- (clap)-I-N-G-O
- (clap)-I-N-G-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: (clap)-(clap)-N-G-O
- (clap)-(clap)-N-G-O
- (clap)-(clap)-N-G-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-G-O
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-G-O
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-G-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-O
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-O
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- Chuck E.: There was a farmer had a dog,
- And Bingo was his name-o.
- All: (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
- (clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- B-I-N-G-O
- B-I-N-G-O
- B-I-N-G-O
- And Bingo was his name-o!
- And Bingo was his name-o!
(Song ends; they all cheer. Both Bingo and Pepperoni are barking excitedly and panting.)
- Abby: That was fun! Bingo liked that song!
- Chuck E.: (giggles) Looks like Pepperoni liked it, too! Well, Charlie? Do you think a dog would be a good pet?
- Charlie: Hmm... maybe. Dogs are really friendly, and they do like to do tricks and listen to music. But I think we need to see a few more animals before I can decide.
- Abby: No problem, Charlie. Let's go find some of your other friends.
- Jasper: Let's go this way, come on!
(They all go in Jasper's direction; up ahead on the sidewalk are Tiffany, Brandon, and Megan. Tiffany is carrying a cat while Megan is holding a fishbowl.)
- Helen: Why, look! It's Tiffany, Brandon, and Megan! They must have pets, too!
- Chuck E.: Hi, kids!
(They all give hellos.)
- Pasqually: My, what awesome pets you have there!
- Megan: Thanks, Pasqually! This is my goldfish Bubbles. I'm taking him to the pet store to get some more food for him, and also something to put in the bowl.
- Chuck E.: That looks cool! I love fish! Especially when they're swimming in a bowl! And what do you have there, Tiffany?
- Tiffany: Well, this is my pet cat, Toodles. Brandon is helping me watch him for the weekend.
- Brandon: Yeah! And we're taking him to the pet store to get him something to play with! What are you doing?
- Helen: We're helping Charlie decide on a pet to adopt! Charlie, what do you think of cats and fish?
- Charlie: Well, fish look like fun, but they sit in a bowl all day. And all you can do is watch them. But cats are even cooler! They're soft and cute, and they like to snuggle.
(He pets Toodles, and he is heard purring.)
- Tiffany: Aww, Toodles likes it when you pet him.
- Jasper: Oh...better hope I don't chase him away; dogs chase cats!
- Abby: I hope Bingo doesn't chase him, either.
- Tiffany: Don't worry, Toodles is self-trained. No one can chase him. He's friendly, too.
- Chuck E.: Hey, Tiffany. Maybe we can sing Toodles a song to help him feel more comfortable around the other dogs.
- Tiffany: Yeah! Good idea! Toodles loves songs, and they help him relax, too!
(They all put their pets down and gather up; music to "Pussycat, Pussycat" starts.)
- Chuck E. and the kids: Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been?
- I've been to London to visit the Queen
- Pussycat, pussycat, what happened there?
- I frightened a little mouse under her chair
- Jasper: A mouse?! But Chuck E., you're a mouse! Will Toodles chase you?
- Chuck E.: Don't worry, Jasper. I'm a friendly mouse. I'm good with all cats!
- Tiffany: Yeah, no cat would ever chase you, Chuck E.! Especially Toodles.
(He pets Toodles to prove it; he purrs.)
- Chuck E. and the kids: Pussycat, pussycat, where did you go?
- I've been to Paris to have escargot
- Pussycat, pussycat, what did you do?
- I scared off an artist who's all dressed in blue
- Pasqually: Hey, I've got a joke! Knock, knock!
- All others: Who's there?
- Pasqually: Purr!
- All others: Purr who?
- Pasqually: Purr-fect day, isn't it?
(All laugh except for Jasper.)
- Jasper: Ugh... why does he always have to be all pussy like that?
(More laughter from everyone.)
- Jasper: Seriously?!
- Chuck E. and the kids: Pussycat, pussycat, how was your day?
- I've been to Fiji to have a vacay
- Pussycat, pussycat, did you have fun?
- I sunbathed and chased a ball under the sun
- Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been?
- I've been to London to visit the Queen
- Pussycat, pussycat, what happened there?
- I frightened a little mouse under her chair
(Song ends; they all laugh.)
- Charlie: You have really good pets! But I still haven't decided what pet I want, yet.
- Brandon: Don't worry, Charlie, you'll think of something.
- Chuck E.: Come on, let's keep looking for more pet suggestions.
(They all walk away; changes to the town fountain as our party arrives.)
- Helen: See any more pets you'd like, Charlie?
- Charlie: No... but here come Matt and Pia!
(Indeed Matt and Pia are ahead; he is holding a rabbit in his arms while she has a parakeet on her shoulder. They approach them.)
- Pia: Hey, guys, how's it going?
- Chuck E.: Matt, Pia, Charlie is gonna adopt a pet today, but he needs help deciding. What pets do you have?
- Pia: Well, this is my parakeet, Cindy. I got her for my birthday last year. She likes repeating everything I say.
- Cindy: (squawks) Repeating everything I say!
- Pia: See? Just like that?
- Cindy: Just like that! Just like that! (squawks)
(All laugh.)
- Jasper: And what pet do you have there, Matt?
- Matt: This is my bunny rabbit, Sprinkles. She's really hoppy today.
- Pasqually: Hoppy as in happy, perhaps? (giggles)
- Jasper: Aww, look at her nose wiggle, and her ears jiggle!
- Helen: And I love how her tail jiggles!
- Matt: She must be learning the bunny dance we did in school the other day.
- Chuck E.: A bunny dance? I know that dance! That sounds like fun!
- Charlie: You think you can show us how, Chuck E.?
- Chuck E.: Why, sure I can! Let's all be bunnies together!
(Music to "Bunny Dance" starts; they all line up.)
- Chuck E.: All right, I'm gonna teach you how to dance like bunny rabbits! Just do what I do, okay? Let's go!
- We're gonna dance like bunnies today
- They love to wiggle and hop all the way
- Now everyone follow along with me
- This is how you do it, see?
- All right! You have to stand up to do the bunny dance! Now stand up, everybody! Come on, get up! Now you do what we do! Ready? One, two, three, four!
- First you shake your rabbit tail
- Back and forth without a fail
- All: Shake your tail! Shake your tail!
- Shake...your...tail!
- Chuck E.: Here's what's next, reach your hands to the sky
- Make bunny ears and flap them way up high
- All: Bunny ears! Bunny ears!
- Make...bunny...ears!
- Chuck E.: Now here's what's next, it's funny, you suppose
- Let me see you wiggle and twitch your nose
- All: Wiggle your nose! Wiggle your nose!
- Wiggle...your...nose!
- Chuck E.: Here's what's last, this is no flop
- Up on your feet and everybody hop!
- All: Hop! Hop!
- Hop...hop...hop!
- We're all doing the bunny dance
- It's what rabbits do, you see?
- We can dance like bunnies do,
- Follow along with me
- We're all doing the bunny dance
- It's fun to dance with friends
- Chuck E.: Now everybody from the top,
- Let's bunny dance again!
- Are you ready to do it all together? Here we go!
- Shake your tail from side to side!
- All: Shake...your...tail!
- Chuck E.: Make bunny ears, flop 'em way up high!
- All: Make...bunny...ears!
- Chuck E.: Wiggle your nose, like you're sniffin' up fun
- All: Wiggle...your...nose!
- Chuck E.: Now let's all hop, everyone!
- All: Hop, hop, hop!
- Chuck E.: Again, faster!
(Music speeds up.)
- Chuck E.: Shake your tail from side to side!
- All: Shake...your...tail!
- Chuck E.: Make bunny ears, flop 'em way up high!
- All: Make...bunny...ears!
- Chuck E.: Wiggle your nose, like you're sniffin' up fun
- Wiggle...your...nose!
- Chuck E.: Now let's all hop, everyone!
- All: Hop, hop, hop!
- Chuck E.: All right, last time! Really fast!
(Music speeds the fastest.)
- Chuck E.: Shake your tail from side to side!
- All: Shake...your...tail!
- Chuck E.: Make bunny ears, flop them way up high!
- All: Make...bunny...ears!
- Chuck E.: Wiggle your nose, like you're sniffin' up fun
- All: Wiggle...your...nose!
- Chuck E.: Now let's all hop, everyone!
- All: Hop, hop, hop!
- We're all doing the bunny dance
- It's what rabbits do, you see?
- And we danced like bunnies do,
- We really can agree
- Thanks for doing the bunny dance
- Out here in the sun
- Chuck E.: Now everybody take a bow,
- The dancing is all done!
(Song ends; they all bow and laugh.)
- Helen: I love dancing like a bunny!
- Abby: Yeah, me too!
(Suddenly, a dog rushes right past them!)
- Jasper: Uh...what was that?
(William, Toby, and Spencer come racing past as well!)
- William, Toby, and Spencer: STOP THAT DOG!!!
- Cindy: (squawks) Stop that dog!
- Charlie: Hey, what are William, Toby, and Spencer up to?
(Mrs. Hendricks walks up to them.)
- Chuck E.: Hey, look! It's Mrs. Hendricks! And she looks kinda worried.
- Mrs. Hendricks: Oh, Chuck E., you have got to help me! My dog Skippy has gotten loose, and William, Toby, and Spencer are trying to catch him! Do you think you can help them out?
- Chuck E.: Why, of course, Mrs. Hendricks! We'll get your dog back!
- Cindy: (squawks) Get your dog back, get your dog back!
- Mrs. Hendricks: Skippy ran that way, now hurry!
(They all shout indistinctly and run in the same direction the boys went. At last they catch up to them by an ally.)
- Charlie: Guys! We're here to help you --
- William: Stop!
(They halt in their tracks!)
- Chuck E.: Whoa! Why'd you stop us, guys?
- Jasper: Yeah, what's happening? And where's Skippy?
- Spencer: Oh, thank goodness you stopped! Skippy ran down that ally and we've finally got him!
- Toby: But if we move, he might run away again! Skippy's very skittish around neighbors.
- Chuck E.: Don't worry, kids. We'll find a way to get Skippy out.
- Charlie: Yeah! I still haven't decided on what I want for a pet yet, so we're heading for the pet store later.
- Spencer: That's cool, Charlie! I can't wait to see what you pick!
- William: We'll go with you, but first we have to think of a way to get Skippy to come here without scaring him.
(They all look at Skippy.)
- Munch: Man... Skippy's really cute, and he looks funny, too.
- Pasqually: Yeah! Look at those big, floppy ears! (giggles) They're enormous!
(As he laughs; Skippy makes a questioning bark and starts to approach them.)
- Tiffany: Uh, guys? I think Skippy moved.
- Chuck E.: Pasqually, say something else!
- Pasqually: Like what? About his enormous ears? (laughs)
(Skippy comes a little closer.)
- Chuck E.: Hey... this gives me an idea! Jasper, could you give me a beat?
- Jasper: Um... okay, Chuck E.
(He gets out his guitar and begins strumming; music to "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" starts.)
- Chuck E.: Hey, Skippy! Listen to this!
- Do your ears hang low?
- Do they wobble to and fro?
- Can you tie 'em in a knot?
- Can you tie 'em in a bow?
- Can you throw 'em o'er your shoulder
- Like a continental soldier?
- Do your ears hang low?
(Skippy barks and comes closer.)
- Chuck E.: Look! Every time he hears something about his long ears, he comes closer!
- Spencer: Oh! I think Skippy likes flopping his long ears so much, he likes it when we talk about them!
- Chuck E.: Jasper, help me out, here.
- Chuck E. and Jasper: Do your ears hang high?
- Do they reach up to the sky?
- Do they droop when they are wet?
- Do they stiffen when they're dry?
- Can you wave them at your neighbor
- With an element of flavor?
- Do your ears stand high?
(Skippy keeps coming closer, barking excitedly.)
- Helen: It's working! I bet Skippy will come all the way over if we all sing together!
- Kids: YEAH!
- Chuck E.: Okay! Now sing along with us, everybody! Here we go!
(As they sing, Skippy comes toward them.)
- All: Do your ears flip-flop?
- Can you use them as a mop?
- Are they stringy at the bottom?
- Are they curly at the top?
- Can you use them for a swatter?
- Can you use them for a blotter?
- Do your ears flip-flop?
- Do your ears stick out?
- Can you waggle them about?
- Can you flap them up and down
- As you fly around the town?
- Can you shut them up for sure
- When you hear an awful bore?
- Do your ears stick out?
(Skippy finally reaches them and they cheer; Mrs. Hendricks approaches them, and Skippy walks over to her.)
- Mrs. Hendricks: Thank you, Chuck E., thank you everyone for finding Skippy! He's so happy!
(Skippy barks in reply.)
- Mrs. Hendricks: I wonder how he's this happier than ever.
- Jasper: Well, you could say we were... all ears!
(He flops his ears and everyone laughs.)
- Chuck E.: Now Skippy is back, safe where he belongs!
- Mrs. Hendricks: Come on, Skippy, let's go home. Bye, everyone!
- All: Bye, Mrs. Hendricks!
(Mrs. Hendricks leaves.)
- All: Do your ears hang low?
- Do they wobble to and fro?
- Can you tie 'em in a knot?
- Can you tie 'em in a bow?
- Can you throw 'em o'er your shoulder
- Like a continental soldier?
- Do your ears hang low?
(Song ends; they all laugh.)
- Charlie: That was really funny! But I still can't decide! A bunny is soft and floppy, and a parakeet can talk...
- Cindy: (squawks) Parakeets can talk!
- Charlie: And even after finding Mrs. Hendricks' dog, it's even harder than ever!
- Chuck E.: Don't worry, Charlie. You'll make up your mind, soon. Right, Pepperoni?
(No barking from Pepperoni.)
- Chuck E.: Pepperoni? ...Uh, Pepperoni! (He repeatedly turns around.) Pepperoni?! Where are you?! Pepperoni!?! Oh, no!!! Pepperoni's missing!!!
(They all gasp and voice concern.)
- Charlie: I think Pepperoni must have wandered off when we were chasing Skippy!
- Helen: How are we gonna find him?!
- Toby: Yeah, he could be anywhere in town!
- Chuck E.: Hmm... (gasps) I've got it! I've taught Pepperoni to understand me not only with words, but with music, too!
- William: So...?
- Chuck E.: If I lose him, I sing a special song, and he'll come right up to me! I hope it works...
(Music to "Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?" starts; he inhales deeply and begins to sing.)
- Chuck E.: Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
- Oh where, oh where can he be?
- With his ears cut short and his tail cut long,
- Oh where, oh where can he be?
- I think he went to the riverside
- To nap under the tall trees,
- A place so nice, and quiet and calm
- Where he can listen to bees
- Or maybe he went down to the park
- Where lots of children can play
- They love to play tag and he likes to bark
- Until the end of the day
(Barking is heard; from down the sidewalk from Chuck E.'s perspective, Pepperoni is scampering toward him.)
- Chuck E.: I hear him! The song's working! Here he comes!
- Megan: That's so cool!
- Helen: Hey, Chuck E., can we sing along with you?
- Munch: Yeah! If singing helped us find Skippy, it will help us find Pepperoni, too!
- Chuck E.: Okay! You too, sing along with me! Ready?
- All: Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
- Oh where, oh where can he be?
- With his ears cut short and his tail cut long,
- Oh where, oh where can he be?
(Pepperoni barks again and reaches Chuck E. as the song ends.)
- All: YAY!!!!
(More cheering; Chuck E. happily pets Pepperoni and snuggles him.)
- Chuck E.: Pepperoni, you came back! Oh, I missed you so much!
(He gives Pepperoni a big hug, and he gets a lick on the cheek in response.)
- All others: Awwwwwwww!
- Chuck E.: Looks like you missed me, too! Now come on, we have a pet store to get to, so we can help Charlie pick his own pet.
- Charlie: Yeah, I really need to decide soon!
- Munch: To the pet store!
(They all cheer and rush down the sidewalk; changes to the exterior of the pet store/animal shelter Chuck E. got Pepperoni from in his flashback, they all gather up.)
- Chuck E.: Well, this is it. This is the pet store where I first got you, Pepperoni! Brings back memories, huh?
(Pepperoni barks; suddenly...)
- Matt: Hey, guys! Look in the window! I think there's some new animals on display!
(They all rush to the window; several puppies and kittens are on display. They gather round and voice adoring comments.)
- Helen: Oh, look at all those puppies and kitties in the window! They're so adorable!
- Tiffany: Yeah, they're just as cute as Toodles!
- Chuck E.: And I bet they're as adorable as you, Pepperoni!
(Pepperoni barks in reply.)
- Charlie: Maybe these adorable pets will give me an idea of what pet I want!
(They all voice chatters of agreement; music to '"A' You're Adorable" starts.)
- All: A, you're adorable
- B, you're so beautiful
- C, you're a cutie full of charms
- D, you're a darling and
- E, you're exciting and
- F, you're a feather in my arms
(Chuck E. giggles)
- All: G, you look good to me
- H, you're so heavenly
- I, you're the one I idolize
- J, we're like Jack and Jill
- K, you're so kissable
- L is the love light in your eyes
- M, N, O, P
- I could go on all day
- Q, R, S, T
- Alphabetically speaking, you're okay
- Munch: We're okay, yeah!
- All: U made my life complete
- V means you're very sweet
- W, X, Y, Z
- It's fun to wander through the alphabet with you,
- To tell you what you mean to me!
- It's fun to wander through the alphabet with you,
- To tell you what you mean... to... me!
(Song ends; they all laugh as they enter the pet store. Cuts to a slow pan through the interior as we see various visitors getting things for their pets. Our party files in and voice astounded comments.)
- Chuck E.: We're here!
- Brandon: Come on, let's go the fish depot and find the stuff for Bubbles!
- Helen: The fish depot is over there.
(They walk in the direction of Helen; they pass various reptile tanks.)
- Jasper: Wow, look at that lizard!
- Pasqually: And that snake!
- Munch: Uh, Chuck E.? This tank has mice in it, like you.
- Chuck E.: Huh, that's interesting. Maybe if someone adopts them, it's like having part of me with 'em.
(Both giggle)
- Pia: Wow, look at that hamster run in that wheel!
- Cindy: Look at that hamster! Running in wheel! (squawks)
(They reach the fish depot.)
- Megan: Okay, I need to buy some decorations for Bubbles' tank and some more fish flakes to feed him.
- Brandon: I'll help you, Megan.
- Charlie: Hey, Chuck E.! The fish tanks are that way! Can we go look at them?
- Chuck E.: Sure we can! Come on, guys! Let's go browse some fish!
(They all cheer excitedly and rush to the fish tank area where various fish are on display. Music to "Three Little Fishies" starts as they browse.)
- Chuck E.: Down in the meadow in an ittie bitty pool
- Swam three little fishies and a mama fishy too
- "Swim" said the mama fishy, "Swim if you can"
- And they swam, and they swam all over the dam
- All: Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- And they swam and they swam all over the dam
- Helen: "Stop!" cried the mama fish, "Or you will get lost."
- But the three little fishies didn't want to be bossed
- The three little fishies went off on a spree,
- And they swam and they swam right out to the sea
- All: Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- And they swam and they swam right out to the sea
- Spencer: Hey, what fish is that?
- Munch: Why, that's a clownfish, Spencer. He looks like he went to the circus!
- Tiffany: Wow, that's a cool fish right there!
- Chuck E.: That's a butterfly fish, Tiffany! And those spots on his back are used to fool the other fish!
- Jasper: Well, I can tell; I almost thought he was swimming backwards!
(Both Chuck E. and Jasper laugh.)
- Charlie: Hey, look at this! I can make a fish face!
(He shows his fish face; all laugh.)
- Pasqually: Now you really look like a fish, Charlie! (giggles)
- Jasper: "Help!" cried the fishies, "Look at the whale!"
- And quick as they could, they turned on their tails
- And back to the itty bitty pool they swam
- And they swam and they swam back over the dam
- All: Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- And they swam and they swam back over the dam
- Boop boop diten datem whatem choo
- And they swam and they swam all over the dam
(Song ends; they all cheer. Megan and Brandon return with the stuff for Bubbles.)
- Megan: Hey, guys! We've got the stuff for Bubbles!
- Brandon: Those are some neat fish!
- Charlie: Fish are exciting, but they're not the pet I want to adopt. It's gotta be something different.
- Helen: Come on, Charlie, let's go sit down.
(They leave the fish depot; they find a bench near the window of the adoption center and sit down.)
- Chuck E.: Well, Charlie? Have you decided on what pet you want yet?
- Charlie: Almost, Chuck E. I just need a few more moments to think.
(He pauses a bit and looks at each pet in turn.)
- Charlie: I know I don't want a fish like Bubbles... but a bunny like Sprinkles is really soft and fuzzy and twitchy.
- Matt: Yeah, and good for bunny dancing, too!
- Charlie: A parakeet like Cindy is really talkative...
- Cindy: (squawks) Really talkative! Really talkative!
- Pia: That's you, Cindy.
- Cindy: That's you, Cindy! (squawks)
- Charlie: Cats like Toodles are good to carry and snuggle...
- Tiffany: And they really love their toys.
- Brandon: Look at this squeaky mouse I got him!
- Charlie: But a dog like Bingo and Skippy and Pepperoni... they're always on the move, doing tricks, and giving you kisses when you show them affection.
(Pepperoni barks in reply.)
- Chuck E.: Pepperoni says thank you.
(A moment of silence as Charlie stares at the pets... then he gasps!)
- Charlie: I know what pet I want!
(All sit up and voice random anticipating comments.)
- Toby: What is it, Charlie? What pet do you want?
- Chuck E.: Yeah, tell us!
- Charlie: I wanna get a dog, just like you, Chuck E.!
- Chuck E.: Really?!
- Charlie: Really! I want an animal that's always on the move, can do tricks, and can go wherever I go!
(All cheer; Chuck E. and Charlie go over to the adoption counter.)
- Chuck E.: Hey, Fran!
- Fran: Hello, Chuck E. Hi, Charlie. What's going on?
- Charlie: Fran, I wanna adopt a dog, just like Chuck E. did!
- Fran: Awesome! The kennel is back through this door.
- Charlie: Chuck E., wanna come with me?
- Chuck E.: Sure, Charlie!
- Charlie: The rest of you wait here. I want you to be surprised.
- Chuck E.: I'll see you later, Pepperoni.
(Fran opens the back door leading to the dog kennel; music to "Dog Jammin'" starts.)
- Fran: Okay, the dogs are right this way! Have fun!
- Chuck E.: Let's go!
(They enter the kennel and pass a series of dogs in their cages, Fran following behind.)
- Chuck E. and Charlie: Well, we're dog jammin' with our dog buddies
- And our bark has such a bite
- When we're dog jammin' with our dog buddies
- We've been known to jam all night
- Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, the canine crew
- Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, we're jammin' with you
(They come to the first dogs.)
- Chuck E.: What do you think of this, Charlie?
- Charlie: Nah, that dog's too big.
- Chuck E.: How 'bout this one?
- Charlie: Nope, he's too small.
- Chuck E.: Or this one?
- Charlie: Too grey.
- Chuck E.: Or this?
- Charlie: Mmm... too white.
- Chuck E.: Dogs come in every color, shape and size
- Fran: With long waggy tails and big brown eyes
- Charlie: Some are big and clunky, some are small and spunky
- Fran: Every dog is fun as a barrel full of monkeys!
(More dogs.)
- Chuck E.: Maybe this one?
- Charlie: Nope, too hairy.
- Chuck E.: How about that one?
- Charlie: Uh-uh, too hairless.
- Chuck E.: This one?
- Charlie: Nah.
- Chuck E.: That one?
- Charlie: I don't think so.
- Chuck E.: This one? That one?
- Charlie: Neither.
- Chuck E.: Man, there sure are lots of dogs today!
- Charlie: They love to run and play 'til the sun goes down
- Chasin' neighbor cats all over town
- Chuck E.: They mostly eat dog food, but may I say
- They'd rather have your dinner any old day
- Chuck E. and Charlie: Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, the canine crew
- Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, we're jammin' with you
(Suddenly...)
Charlie: (gasps) Chuck E., look!
(He found the perfect dog!)
- Chuck E.: Hey, that one's lookin' right at you!
- Charlie: Yeah... he's the one! Fran! We found the perfect dog!
- Fran: Awesome! Which number is he?
- Chuck E.: Fifth hall, middle level, number 17-M.
- Fran: Great! I'll get him ready, all you have to do is fill out the paperwork I left on the desk.
- Charlie: Awesome!
- Chuck E.: I think you've picked the perfect pet, Charlie!
(They exit the kennel and Charlie fills out the paperwork.)
- Chuck E. and Charlie: Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, the canine crew
- Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, we're jammin' with you
(Fran comes out, having gotten the chosen dog. She lays out the adoption certificate.)
- Chuck E. and Charlie: Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, the canine crew
- Do-do-do-do-do-do, dog jammin
- Do-do-do-do, we're jammin' with you
- Chuck E.: All you have to do now is sign your name on the adoption certificate and name your new pet. So what's his name?
- Charlie: I'll name him... Sparky!
(He signs his name and puts down the new pet's name, Sparky. Fran stamps the certificate, it's official.)
- Fran: He's all yours!
- Charlie: Thanks, Fran!
- Chuck E. and Charlie: Dog jammin'!
(Song ends.)
- Charlie: Everyone, I'd like you to meet my new dog, Sparky!
- All others: Hi, Sparky!
- Chuck E.: Look, Pepperoni, you have a new friend to play with!
(Pepperoni barks excitedly, jumping into Chuck E.'s arms as he giggles.)
- Chuck E.: I think he's very happy!
- Charlie: I think Sparky's happy, too!
(His new dog, Sparky, barks happily to confirm.)
- Cindy: (squawks) Sparky's happy! Sparky's happy!
- Pia: You've got that right, Cindy!
- Jasper: Now you have a special friend who won't leave you alone!
- Munch: And you can teach him tricks, too!
- Helen: And he'll be everywhere, waiting for you!
- Pasqually: And he's really silly, too! (giggles)
- Charlie: Sparky, I'm gonna take you wherever I go!
- All: HOORAY!!!!!
(Sparky barks and gives Charlie a cheek lick; he giggles.)
- Chuck E.: Bye, Fran!
- Fran: Bye, Chuck E.! Bye, Charlie! Enjoy your new pet!
- Charlie: I will!
(Cuts to outside the pet store as they all come out; music to "We Love Our Pets" starts.)
- Chuck E.: Oh, today was really special
- Our friend Charlie got a pet
- He's so happy and he's thankful
- That he got the best one yet
- Charlie: My new doggy, his name's Sparky
- He will be right my my side

- With a smile that's really wide
- All: All these animals, they're amazing

- Jasper: Have a doggy, or a kitty

(They all voice "You're welcome" in many ways.)
- Chuck E.: And thank you, too! I bet Charlie's really happy to have Sparky!
- Charlie: Sparky's the best pet ever!
(Pepperoni barks)

(Song ends as they disappear into the distance, ending the show.)
(End credits.)
