The Chuck E. Cheese Show (also unofficially known as the Summer 2014 Show by some fans) was a showtape that was created to play from July 1st to August 31st of 2014.[1]

This is the first show to use the short-lived act structured format, with the format being used until the Winter 2015 Show.

Synopsis[]

The first act of the show begins with Chuck E. and friends preparing for a big show, but there's one major problem: Steve Waters is missing. It turns out Steve went on a hot air balloon ride trip around the world, but this isn't good for Chuck E. as it is necessary for Steve to be there for the show's finale.

The second act of the show features little to no progress on the search for Steve, with the band throwing around various ideas of how to bring Steve back, such as building a time machine to warn Steve not to go before on the trip beforehand, but this idea goes nowhere. Ultimately, Chuck E. and Jasper decide to hold auditions to see who could replace Steve, but these auditions largely stress Chuck E. even more.

Ultimately by the third act, Steve still has not returned from his trip around the world, making Chuck E. form a band of four auditioners (Nigel, Copernicus, Justin, and Charlie Rockit) called The Steve Waters Understudies. Chuck E. sings the final song of the show with them, but near the end of the song Steve returns from his trip and sings the final verse with Chuck E.. The third act features Steve reencountering all the things he saw while on his trip, and decides to do it again.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first show of several things:
    • The first show to feature a Chuck E. Cheese puppet for the Rockstar era, though this puppet was only used for this show. He is the last of the band to receive a puppet.
    • This show is the first of four to use an act format. Only segments/songs are programmed, with the acts themselves being left unprogrammed as mere intermissions.
    • This show is the first to lean into the use of puppet-based content, rather then using walkarounds. There is no use of walkarounds in this show. This also does not include live shows, which continue to feature the use of walkarounds.
      • Existing Stages will feature the use of puppets in shows from this point on, despite puppets predominantly being used to interact with Chuck E. for the Studio C versions of shows.
    • The first show since Chuck E's Rockin' Rhymes to feature purely original songs, rather then the usual covers/parodies.
      • This is also the first show to have any newly produced original songs made for the Rockstar era.
    • The first show where Mr. Munch is voiced by Chris Hill.
      • During the first segment, Mr. Munch starts an introduction using John Bowen's voice, before coughing and slipping into Chris Hill's voice, as an inside-joke toward the recast.
  • This show was initially meant to be a generic/backup show.[1] But due to a lawsuit following unauthorized permission to use a green screen video of a cat during the first intermission, the show was dropped as a backup, and Department 18's budget was slashed, resulting in the sudden retirement of covers/parodies, as well as acts.
