King Kat was a cabaret act from the Pizza Time Theatre era of Chuck E. Cheese. He was designed to be an alternative to The King, and was a parody of the popular American musician Michael Jackson.
History[]
King Kat first debuted in 1984, being created as an attempt by PTT to boost declining sales. He was a retrofit of The King, with these changes mostly being in cosmetics. However, he would have his animatronic slightly changed in order to hold a microphone instead of his guitar. During development, he was named Michael Katzon, although this would be changed probably in order to recycle the neon King sign on his stage. He sang original recordings of Michael Jackson songs while actor Kenny Ingram gave dialogue in between.
King Kat’s time was cut short due to PTT’s bankruptcy, and only a few animatronics were made during his run. One of them survives at the Volo Auto Museum.
Trivia[]
- The only track fully recorded by Kenny Ingram was "Billie Jean Birthday".[2]
