Lyrics[]
Chuck E.: This speech is my recital, I think it's very vital
Chuck E. and Jasper: (alternating) To rock a rhyme that's right on time, "It's Tricky" is the title (Here we go)
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky (it's tricky)
It's tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky
Tr-tr-tr-tricky, tricky, tricky
Jasper: I met this little girlie, her hair was kind of curly
Went to her house to take her out, I had to leave real early
Chuck E.: My name is Chuck E. Cheesy, you all right there to please me
Let's spend some time and rock a rhyme, I said, "It's not that easy"
Chuck E. and Jasper: It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky (How is it, C?)
It's tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky
Tricky, tricky, tricky
Jasper: In New York, the people talk and try to make us rhyme
They really hawk, but we just walk because we have no time
Chuck E.: And in the city, it's a pity 'cause we just can't hide
Tinted windows don't mean nothin', they know who's inside
Chuck E. and Jasper: It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky (How is it, C?)
It's tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky
Tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky, huh!
Chuck E.: (giggles) This is fun! Kickin' it old school with Chuck E.!
Jasper: Hey, Chuck E., what makes this beat so tricky?
Chuck E.: Y'know, I think it's the... rock steady beat, Jasper.
Jasper: Oh-ho, yeah! The rock steady beat!
Chuck E. and Jasper: ROCK STEADY!!
Jasper: When I wake up, people take up mostly all of my time
I'm not singin', phone keep ringin' 'cause I make up a rhyme
Chuck E.: I'm not braggin', people naggin' 'cause they think I'm a star
Always tearin' what I'm wearin', I think they're goin' too far
Jasper: A girl named Helen knows lots of yellin' every gig we play
Then C revived her and high-fived her, now she is okay
Chuck E.: I ain't lyin', kids be cryin' 'cause I'm on TV
They even bother my poor father 'cause he's down with me
Chuck E. and Jasper: It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky (How is it?)
Tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky
Tr-tr-tr-tr-tricky, tr-tr-tr-tr-tricky
We are not thugs, we don't do drugs, 'cause we are good, you see
We will takes hugs and stay off drugs, yeah that is fine with me
It's like that, y'all, y'all, but we don't quit
You keep on rock shock 'cause this is it
Trivia[]
- Some lyrics are slightly changed from the original version of the song, such as "Went to her house to bust her out" being changed to "Went to her house to take her out", or “These girls are really sleazy” to “My name is Chuck E. Cheesy”.
- On the Existing Stages programing for the song, the lines in "We are not thugs, we don't do drugs" were accidentally programed to the wrong character, Chuck's line programed to Jasper and vice versa. This was retained on the Spring 2014 show as well. The Studio C version does not have this error.
